What is IMPAACT4HIV?
IMPAACT4HIV is a Unitaid-funded consortium working to reduce deaths from Advanced HIV Disease (AHD) in six African countries: Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and South Africa. The project takes a comprehensive approach that includes improving access to diagnostics and treatment, strengthening clinical care, supporting community-led responses, and generating demand for timely AHD screening and services.
Through partnerships with Ministries of Health, health facilities, and civil society organizations, IMPAACT4HIV is helping to close critical gaps in testing, prevention, and treatment, especially for people at highest risk, including children, adolescents, and adults presenting with advanced disease.

Research and Innovation:
Generating evidence to shape the future of AHD care. Our research evaluates current treatments, diagnostics, and care models to improve patient outcomes and inform evidence-based policies at national and global levels.
Market Access:
Supporting the introduction, adoption, and scale-up of existing and new lifesaving AHD diagnostics and treatments by strengthening market conditions, informing policy and financing decisions, and improving availability and affordability.
Community Engagement:
Working with civil society organizations (CSOs), community networks, and caregivers to improve knowledge of Advanced HIV Disease (AHD) in children and adults, promoting early care seeking, and strengthening community ownership of care. Community insights and feedback help identify barriers, improve service delivery, and optimize health outcomes.
Capacity Building:
Training and equipping healthcare workers with the knowledge and tools needed to manage AHD effectively. Stronger capacity means better care and better outcomes for people living with AHD.
Knowledge Sharing and Advocacy:
Translating evidence and implementation experience into practical tools, advocacy messages, and policy dialogue that support the uptake and scale-up of effective AHD interventions.
